Joe Maddon to donate $25,000 to Hurricane Irma relief

Former Rays’ manager and adopted Floridian Joe Maddon is doing his part to help those impacted by the devastation of Hurricane Irma.

By way of his charity — Respect 90 Foundation — he will be making a $25,000 donation to help those who have lost everything. The foundation is also going beyond just a financial contribution by assisting a local Tampa shelter by giving away food (provided by Maddon’s restaurant Ava and another local restaurant 717 South).

In a press release Maddon said:

"My wife, Jaye, and I are fortunate enough to call Florida home. Our thoughts and prayers are with all our fellow residents including neighbors and friends affected by Hurricane Irma. We are thankful for Florida's leadership and the many first responders who are leading recovery efforts in a state we truly have come to love."

This is just his latest effort in giving, as he also donated money to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey just last month. Additionally, after celebrating his 1000th win earlier this season with the Cubs, he gave away 1000 meals to homeless children in both Chicago and St. Petersburg, proving his old team and stomping grounds are never far from his mind.

Maddon will be back on home turf next week, as the Rays play host to the Cubs.
