The Durham Bulls took a 1-0 lead while the Montgomery Biscuits and Bowling Green Hot Rods dropped their first games of their playoff series.
The Durham offense went off with the middle of the lineup doing most of the damage even without very many extra base hits. Joe McCarthy’s homerun for Montgomery was the lone homer down on the farm.
Triple-A Durham Bulls (1-0)
The Durham Bulls took a 1-0 lead in their playoff series against the Indianapolis Indians with a 10-3 victory. Ryan Yarbrough allowed two solo homers, but those were the only hits and runs he allowed. He struck out five and walked one over six innings. In the first inning four walks and a Jake Bauers RBI single put the Bulls up 2-0. In the second Willy Adames’ RBI single extended the Bulls lead to 3-0. After the Indians closed to within one the Bulls put the game out of reach with a six run fifth inning. The inning started with singles by Adames and Bauers ahead of a RBI double by Patrick Leonard. The Leonard double was the only extra base hit of the game for the Bulls. The inning got out of control with two errors by the Indians defense.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (0-1)
The Montgomery Biscuits dropped the first game of their playoff series against the Chattanooga Lookouts 4-3. Joe McCarthy led off the game with a home run in the top of the first. The lookouts answered with three runs on five singles in the bottom of the frame to take a 3-1 lead. TJ White homered in the fourth to extend the Lookouts lead to 4-1. A Brett Sullivan RBI single in the sixth cut the lead to 4-2. Sullivan and Michael Russell walks to lead off the top of the ninth gave the Biscuits a chance at a comeback. With Brandon Lowe batting the runners advanced to second and third with no outs on a passed ball. Lowe struck out for the first out. McCarthy cut the lead to one with a sacrifice fly that allowed Russell to move to the third. Jake Cronenworth ground ball to second base was fielded cleanly to end the comeback attempt.

The Bowling Green Hot Rods dropped the first game of their playoff series against the Fort Wayne TinCaps 2-1. Mikey York allowed a two out single ahead of a AJ Kennedy homer in the second inning to put the TinCaps up 2-0. Garrett Whitley’s RBI double in the bottom of the eighth cut the lead to 2-1.

The Hudson Valley Renegades game against the Aberdeen IronBirds was postponed due to rain. They will play a double header this evening to bring their regular season to an end. The Hot Rods have clinched a spot in the playoffs.
