Today marks the deadline for the teams around Major League Baseball to file their arbitration numbers with all of their eligible players that were tendered contracts before the non-tender deadline in early December.
The Tampa Bay Rays have nine players on their 40-man roster that were tendered contracts.
Arbitration Estimates:
Jake Odorizzi (4.042) - $6.5MM
Corey Dickerson (4.101) - $6.4MM
Alex Colome (3.118) - $5.5MM
Adeiny Hechavarria (5.060) - $5.0MM
Brad Miller (4.094) - $4.4MM
Steven Souza Jr (3.072) - $3.6MM
Dan Jennings (4.171) - $2.5MM
Jesus Sucre (3.137) - $1.3MM
Matt Duffy (3.059) - $900K
The Rays are one of several teams around the league that have a ‘File and Trial’ system in place, meaning that after the the deadline passes later today, they will have no further contact with the player and agent on salary figures if they weren’t able to reach an agreement prior to the deadline.
Since the Sternberg regime took control of the team following the 2005 season, the Rays are 6-2 in arbitration cases. They had been 6-0, but have since lost their past two cases regarding salaries to Drew Smyly and Jake Odorizzi.

The most notable of which so far is former AL MVP, Josh Donaldson, who set a new arbitration record as agreed to a one year, $23M deal with the Toronto Blue Jays.

First Rays news of the day as the Rays agreed to a deal with former All-Star and 2017 MLB saves leader, Alex Colome, as well as 2017 All-Star, Corey Dickerson. Brad Miller also signed.

Update - 1:15
Thus far the Rays have avoided arbitration with four players, with Steven Souza agreeing to a one year deal.
It is being said that have agreed to deals with the three others — Dan Jennings, Matt Duffy, and Jesus Sucre — just the terms haven’t been released yet.
Adeiny Hechavarria and Jake Odorizzi are reportedly heading for a trial. This will be Odorizzi’s second straight season going to trial, he won his case against the Rays last off-season.
