The San Francisco Giants made another splash move yesterday, trading for Pittsburgh Pirates OF Andrew McCutchen. The Giants are seemingly positioning themselves as either multiple team’s second favorite club (because they have their favorite team’s former star) or multiple team’s LEAST favorite club (because of the same reason).
For the Pirates, this marks the end of a tremendous career in Pittsburgh for McCutchen. In return for Cutch, the Pirates will receive RHP Kyle Crick and OF Bryan Reynolds (as well as $500k in international bonus pool money). Reynolds slots in as the team’s 4th best prospect, by MLB.com’s prospect rankings.
Sell off a franchise cornerstone is not easy and not pleasant, even if it may be necessary. If any team can empathize, it would be the Rays and our fans.
Pittsburgh. My Home.My Fans.My City. The placed that raised me and helped mold me into the man I am today. You will 4ever be in my heart.A tip of the cap to all who have been on this journey with me. With Love and respect,
