MLB Trade Rumors predicts Rays will sign Lance Lynn

The veteran pitcher is being predicted to sign a two year deal with Tampa Bay

MLB Trade Rumors has released their annual top 50 free agents and their contract predictions, which includes destinations for those players.

Among the players listed is right-handed pitcher Lance Lynn, who MLB Trade Rumors has ranked as the 36th best free agent available this offseason. He is also the only player MLB Trade Rumors has predicted will sign with the Tampa Bay Rays this offseason, projecting a two year, $16M deal.

Lynn was a free agent for the first time last offseason and struggled to find a home until mid-March, when the Minnesota Twins signed him to a one year, $12M deal. His Twins tenure did not go well, as he suffered with a erratic control, walking opposing hitters 13.2% of the time.

Minnesota would flip Lynn to the New York Yankees at the trade deadline where he would enjoy much more success as his walk rate decreased exponentially, while his strikeout percentage went up a few ticks. Overall, during his time in pinstripes, Lynn accrued a 4.14 ERA & 2.17 FIP over 11 games — 9 starts — and 54 13 innings pitched, and was included on the team’s postseason roster, facing 12 batters and allowing three runs.

Former Rays to be listed on the MLB Trade Rumors’ rankings include Wilson Ramos, who is projected to receive a 3 year, $36M contract from the Houston Astros. Also listed is postseason hero Nathan Eovaldi, who is projected to sign a 4 year, $60M contract with the Boston Red Sox.
