The Rays have designated DH-LF Corey Dickerson for assignment.
Dickerson, who represented the Rays in the 2017 All-Star Game, had been acquired from the Rockies before the 2016 season for pitchers Jake McGee and German Marquez. Kevin Padlo was also part of that deal.
In Dickerson he slashed .282/.325/.490. He would have been paid $5.95 million this year.
The Rays may still be able to work out a trade for Dickerson. They have a ten day window, starting today, to do so. After that he would be put on waivers, where most likely another team would claim him. That other team would then be responsible for his salary.
This move generated a lot of puzzled tweets in across MLB Twitter.

Dickerson is to be paid $5.95M this year. Had they let Hechevarria walk (also $5.9m) and just played Adames from day 1. Ugh

Corey Dickerson hit .282/.325/.490 (OPS+ 120) and was an All-Star last year. Can someone please explain this to me?

CJ Cron was a first round 2011 pick by the Angels. A right-handed batter, he slashed .248/.305/.437 in 100 games in the 2017 season.
