DOTF 4/19: Jesus Sanchez continues to heat up as part of Stone Crabs offensive explosion

Jesus Sanchez is 16 for his last 30 with 4 doubles and 3 homers.

The Port Charlotte Stone Crabs put up another big offensive game. After a slow start Jesus Sanchez has been on fire as of late. In his first six games he was 2 for 20 with a double, 8 strikeouts, and no walks. In his past seven games he’s 16 for 30 with four doubles and three homers while strikeout three times and walking twice.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (4-8)

The Durham Bulls had the day off.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (3-11)

The Montgomery Biscuits fell to the Tennessee Smokies 5-1. The Biscuits offense struggled to put much together. They hit four singles and drew four walks. In the eighth inning they strung together a single by Thomas Milone, a walk by Jermaine Palacios, and a RBI single by Nick Solak to score their only run of the game. Eduar Lopez got the start for the Biscuits on the mound. He threw three scoreless innings. Matt Krook allowed two runs in four innings out of the bullpen.

Prospect Notes: RHP Matt Krook who the Tampa Bay Rays received from the San Francisco Giants in the Evan Longoria trade has been used out of the bullpen as a four inning guy. In 12.0 innings he has (three four-inning appearances out of the bullpen) struck out 14 (34.1%), walked five (10.6%), and allowed three runs (2.25 ERA). Krook has the stuff, but the command has always been the problem. Fangraphs has him with three plus pitches (fastball, slider, and curveball), but a current 30 command grade. Last year he walked 15.8% of batters. It improved to 11.7% in his last ten appearances after moving to a 2-3 inning bullpen role. Any increase in command moving forward could really make him quite the pickup and the non-starter, two time through the order guy might be the role that maximizes his arm talent.
