The Tampa Bay Rays activated third baseman, Matt Duffy, from the 10-day disabled list and they have optioned right-handed pitcher, Austin Pruitt, to Triple-A Durham.
It’s been a struggle for Matt Duffy to stay healthy during his tenure with the Rays after spending the majority of the 2016 season and all of the 2017 season on the disabled list. He was finally cleared for games to start out the 2018 season, but returned to the DL after playing in 15 games this year with a right hamstring strain. Thus far, over those 15 games, Duffy has hit .267/.302/.350 with 1 HR over 63 plate appearances.
Austin Pruitt has been used sparing thus far in the 2018 season and being a last minute addition to the active roster, following Nate Eovladi’s sudden return to the disabled list. He has pitched in a total of five games, last being used just under two weeks ago on the 14th when the Phillies were in town. Overall, he has allowed 10 runs — 8 earned -- on 14 hits while he has walked five and struck out eight in just of 15 innings pitched.
Matt Duffy will be in the Rays starting lineup tonight, playing third base.
