DOTF 6/13: Jesus Sanchez homers off Marcus Stroman

Jesus Sanchez hit a homer off Marcus Stroman for Port Charlotte. Taylor Walls and Zach Rutherford homered for Bowling Green.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (36-27)

The Durham Bulls were shutout by the Charlotte Knights 1-0. Ryan Weber got the start for Durham and went 6.0 innings and only allowed a single run in the third inning. Unfortunately the Bulls bats scattered seven hits and was unable to put a run across the board. Brandon Snyder’s double was the only extra base hit.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (35-31)

The Montgomery Biscuits fell to the Tennessee Smokies 6-4. In the second the Smokies sprinted out to a 3-0 lead. In the third the Biscuits cut the lead to 3-2 on a Peter Maris homer and Nick Solak RBI single. The Smokies got the two runs back in the bottom of the inning to extend the lead to 5-2 and add a single run in the fourth. Dalton Kelly’s two-RBI single in the fifth cut the lead to 6-4, but the teams traded zeros the rest of the way.

Class A-Advanced Port Charlotte Stone Crabs (30-32)

The Port Charlotte Stone Crabs held on for the 6-5 victory over the Dunedin Blue Jays. Blake Bivens went 6.0 strong innings allowing only a single run in the second while striking out eight. In the fourth inning Jesus Sanchez hit a bomb off rehabbing starter Marcus Stroman that hit the office building in right field.

Sanchez was out in front of the off-speed, but still was able to demolish the baseball.

In the fifth Kevin Kiermaier laced an opposite field triple and scored on Adeiny Hechavarria’s single to extend the Stone Crabs lead to 3-1. Jermaine Palacios’s lead off triple was coverted to a run with a sacrifice fly from David Olmedo-Barrera. In the eighth the Stone Crabs added a run when Jake Fraley grounded into a double play. Palacios hit his second triple of the game in the ninth and scored on Olmedo-Barrera’s RBI single to put the Stone Crabs up 6-1. Five singles and a double brought the lead down to one. The Stone Crabs sealed the victory with a groundout with runners on first and third.

Class A Bowling Green Hot Rods (43-22)

The Bowling Green Hot Rods dropped the first game of the double header 4-3 to the Fort Wayne TinCaps. Vidal Brujan’s leadoff double led to the first run of the game when Moises Gomez reached on a throwing error by the third baseman. The TinCaps tied it up in the bottom of the frame. Zach Rutherford put the Hot Rods ahead with a RBI double in the fifth. Devin Davis added a RBI double in the sixth to put the Hot Rods up 3-1. The TinCaps rallied with a three run bottom of the sixth to get the 4-3 lead in the seven inning game.

In game two the Bowling Green Hot Rods defeated the Fort Wayne TinCaps 4-3. The Hot Rods powered their way to a 2-0 lead in the first off back-to-back homers off the bats of Taylor Walls and Zach Rutherford. Fort Wayne responded with single runs in the second, fourth, and fifth innings to take a 3-2 lead. Carl Chester’s RBI double tied the game in the sixth. Taylor Walls came through a walk off single in the bottom of the seventh.

The DSL Rays 1 fell to the DSL Dodgers Robinson 10-8. In the front four the Rays 1 put five runs on the board to take a 5-2 lead. The Dodgers Robinson scored eight unanswered to take a 10-5 lead. The Rays 1 rally scored three runs in the ninth, but came up two runs short.

The DSL Rays 2 defeated the DSL Red Sox 2 in a rout 25-13. The Rays 2 had four innings where they scored four or more runs including an eight run frame. They put up 24 hits and walked ten times.
