DOTF 6/18: Stone Crabs walk off

GCL Rays drop season opener

The GCL Rays dropped their season opener. The Port Charlotte Stone Crabs walked off in the eleventh.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (37-30)

The Durham Bulls had a scheduled day off.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (37-33)

The Montgomery Biscuits had a scheduled day off.

Port Charlotte Stone Crabs (32-32)

The Port Charlotte Stone Crabs defeated the Lakeland Flying Tigers 5-4. In the fourth inning Lucius Fox led off with a single in front of Tristan Gray’s double to put runners of second and third with no outs. Robbie Tenerowicz plated Fox for the first run of the game on a groundout to give the Stone Crabs a 1-0 lead. The Flying Tigers took a 2-1 lead with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Tenerowicz’s RBI single tied the game in the bottom of the sixth. In the top of the seventh a solo homer by Anthony Peralta gave the Flying Tigers a 3-2 lead. Jake Fraley came through with a RBI single in the ninth to tie the game, but the rally came up short of a walk off win in regulation. In the tenth inning both teams took advantage of the runner placed at second to trade runs. In the eleventh the Stone Crabs denied the run from second. In the bottom of the frame Jake Fraley moved the runner to third with a groundout to second base. Josh Lowe brought home the winning run on a grounder to first. Brock Burke put together a strong 6.0 inning outing with two earned runs.

The Bowling Green Hot Rods had a scheduled day off.

Rookie Hudson Valley Renegades (2-2)

The Hudson Valley Renegades fell to the Broklyn Cyclones 9-7. The Renegades tied the game at one in the second on a RBI triple by Jose Miguel Medina. The game wouldn’t stay tied for long with a five run bottom of the second for the Cyclones to take a 6-1 lead. Rain delayed the game for an hour after six innings. The Renegades scored three runs in the eighth. The first came on a bases loaded walk by Erik Ostberg. Two runs scored on an errant throw by the first baseman. Jason McGowan’s three-RBI double brought the deficit to two and brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth. Ostberg lined out to right field to end the game.

GCL Rays (0-1)

The GCL Rays fell to the GCL Red Sox 11-3 on opening day. The Red Sox plated single runs in the second and third innings to take a 2-0 lead. The Rays temporarily tied the game with two runs in the fourth, but gave up two runs in the fifth that would put the Red Sox up for good. The Red Sox blew open the game with a seven run eighth.

The DSL Rays 2 defeated the DSL Rangers 1 4-3. The Rangers 1 got out to a 2-0 lead in the first. The Rays 2 put up a run in the third before taking the lead with a three run fifth. They were able to hold onto the 4-2 lead allowing only one run in the seventh.
