If there are three words Rays fans are sick of hearing this season, they have to be: Tommy John surgery.

Anthony Banda, who was recently placed on the disabled list with forearm strain, is the most recent Rays pitcher who will undergo the surgery. Banda appeared in three games for the Rays this season, and was the most highly touted piece included in the Steven Souza Jr. trade during the offseason.

Banda will join other up-and-comers like Brent Honeywell and Jose De Leon as those who have had to undergo the season-ending surgery this year. Nathan Eovaldi also had elbow surgery early in the season, but has since been able to return, as it was not as severe a procedure.

According to Marc Topkin, it appears likely that Banda will be out until the 2020 season.
