Rays prospects and minor leagues: Brandon Lowe, Nate Lowe among promotions

With Jake Bauers’ promotions to the majors, roster spots had to be fill in the minors.

Taking Jake Bauers’ place on Durham’s roster is Brandon Lowe, who was splitting time between second base and left field for Montgomery. In turn, the Biscuits make a couple additions, getting first baseman Nate Lowe and infielder Peter Maris from Charlotte. The Stone Crabs activated Jake Fraley from the disabled list.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (33-25)

Durham edged Scranton/Wilkes-Barre by a 5-4 score. After the RailRiders scored four in the bottom of the fourth, the Bulls answered with four of their own in the top of the fifth. Kean Wong’s double scored a run, and Justin Williams tied the game with a three-run homer. Willy Adames led off the seventh with a triple and scored the go-ahead run on Brandon Snyder’s sacrifice fly. Kyle Bird opened with 2 13 scoreless innings, and Andrew Moore allowed four runs in 2 23 frames.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (31-29)

Montgomery extended its winning streak to seven games with a 5-2 win over Mississippi. The Biscuits went up 5-0, in large put due to Jake Cronenworth’s bases-clearing double in the fourth. Dalton Moats opened with three strikeouts in 1 23 innings, and Eduar Lopez followed with 3 13 scoreless frames. Mississippi threatened in the ninth, but Cody Hall recorded the final two outs to secure the win.

Class A-Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs (26-30)

Charlotte’s late rally was not even close to enough in a 9-3 loss to Dunedin. The Stone Crabs fell in a 9-0 hole but scored three runs over the final two innings, including on a Tristan Gray solo homer in the ninth. On the mound, Alexis Tapia made his 2018 debut and allowed three unearned runs in three innings. Jake Fraley also debuted and reached base twice.

Class-A Bowling Green Hot Rods (37-21)

Ronaldo Hernandez was at it again in Bowling Green’s 4-2 win over Lansing. He had two of the Hot Rods’ four hits, and both were for extra bases. He doubled in a run in the second, and he hit a two-run homer in the fourth. With the early run support of Hernandez, Alex Valverde turned in a nice start, allowing just a run in six innings.
