Dan Straily Scouting Report
Straily’s year is better than his statline indicates. Lately, he has been solid for the Marlins, allowing a total of 10 runs over his last 25 innings pitched — four starts. His latest outing came on the 11th against the Brewers where he allowed two runs — one earned — on four hits, including a home run, while he walked two and struck out seven over six innings pitched.
His repertoire per Brooks Baseball
In 2018, he has relied primarily on his Fourseam Fastball (91mph) and Slider (84mph), also mixing in a Change using a Circle Change grip (84mph).
His fourseam fastball has slightly below average velo and has some added backspin. His slider results in somewhat more flyballs compared to other pitchers’ sliders. His change generates a high number of swings & misses compared to other pitchers’ changeups, generates a very high amount of groundballs compared to other pitchers’ changeups and has some natural sink to it.
