Tampa Bay Rays place Blake Snell on the disabled list with shoulder fatigue

A MRI has revealed no structural damage for Snell

The Tampa Bay Rays have place All-Star starting pitcher, Blake Snell, on the 10-day disabled list with left shoulder fatigue. In his place, they have called up RHP Chih-Wei Hu from Triple-A Durham.

Blake Snell is finally flourishing in 2018 after suffering a rough 2017 campaign. The young southpaw and former top prospect has overcome early career issues to become one of the top pitchers in baseball over the last calendar year. Thus far this season, Snell has made 20 starts and has a 2.27 ERA & 3.43 FIP, while his walk rate is just south of 10%. Opponents are mustering just a .188 average against him this season as well.

It’s a crucial blow for the Rays, but hopefully a temporary one as Snell has already seen Dr Eaton and undergone an MRI, which revealed no structural damage.

Hu rejoins the Rays for another promotion this season, having already spent several days on the active roster at various points in the season thus far. However, he has only pitched in two games for the Rays and both outings have not gone particularly well. In total, he has given up five runs on five hits — two home runs — over 7 23 innings pitched.
