Kevin Cash thinks the Rays will be very active at the trade deadline

Fire up the hot stove!

During his pregame meeting with the assembled media, Kevin Cash addressed the trade deadline. With the Rays already being involved in plenty of speculation from pundits around the game, Cash stated that he thought the team would be very active on the trade market.

Nothing appears to be imminent, but the Rays are finally cropping up in rumors.

Earlier this morning, a story surfaced from Ken Rosenthal that the San Diego Padres have been making a “big push” to acquire Chris Archer. The Rays have several other players on their rosters that several teams would certainly like to pursue as well, with Wilson Ramos and Nathan Eovaldi likely being the most sought after.

The Rays are on the cusp of contention, sitting just above .500 with a record of 51-49 heading into tonight’s contest with the New York Yankees. The Rays are 19 games back in the division, but sit nine games back in the Wild Card chase, with the Oakland Athletics being the only team that separates Tampa Bay from the currently qualifying Seattle Mariners.

Other players the Rays are possibly looking to move include shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria, who is somewhat without a position with the promotion of top prospect Willy Adames, despite elite defensive abilities. The Rays also have veteran relievers Jonny Venters and Sergio Romo available, with starters Nate Eovaldi and Chris Archer in the headlines at MLBTR.

The trade deadline is just one week away, so expect the amount of speculation and rumors to reach a frenzy in the near future.
