DOTF 7/4: Vidal Brujan and Chris Betts homer.

Wander Franco continues his hot start. Josh Fleming threw 7.0 strong for Bowling Green.

Vidal Brujan (Bowling Green) and Chris Betts (Hudson Valley) were the notable prospects to homer. Wander Franco continued his hot start with a triple and another multi-hit game. Josh Fleming (Bowling Green) had the most impressive start allowing one run in 7.0 innings.

The DSL teams both were firing on all cylinders offensively putting up double digit runs. Luis Perez hit two homers and a double on way to nine RBI.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (49-35)

The Durham Bulls fell to the Charlotte Knights 4-2. The Bulls were forced to go with bullpen day with their scheduled starter, Ryan Weber, getting called up to pick up most of the innings for the big league club on Wednesday afternoon. In the fifth inning Jason Coats tied the game at one with a RBI single. The game wasn’t tied for long as the Knights put up a three spot in the bottom of the sixth. In the seventh Andrew Velazquez hit a solo homer to cut the Knights lead to 4-2, but that’s where it would stay.

The Montgomery Biscuits lost to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos 7-2. The Biscuits fell behind 7-0 half way through the fifth. Thomas Milone plated the first run for the Biscuits with a RBI single in the bottom of the fifth. Michael Brosseau led off the bottom of the seventh with a solo homer for the second and final run for Montgomery.

Port Charlotte Stone Crabs (39-40)

The Port Charlotte Stone Crabs game against the Florida Fire Frogs was suspended due to rain with the Stone Crabs holding a 4-2 lead in the top of the fifth. With the Stone Crabs down 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth RBI doubles by Josh Lowe and Jesus Sanchez put the Stone Crabs up 2-1. The lead didn’t last as the Fire Frogs answered with a run in the bottom of the frame. In the top of the fifth Zacrey Law hit a sacrifice fly to give the Stone Crabs a lead and Robbie Tenerowicz’s RBI single extended the Stone Crabs lead to two.

Class A Bowling Green Hot Rods (56-27)

The Bowling Green Hot Rods defeated the South Bend Cubs 5-2. Trailing 1-0 entering the bottom of the fourth the Hot Rods loaded the bases with one out on a single, hit by pitch, and walk. Devin Davis unloaded the bases with a three-run double to take a 3-1 lead. Eleardo Cabrera’s RBI single extended the Hot Rods lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the seventh. After the Cubs answered with a single run in the top of the eight Vidal Brujan hit a solo homerun to push the lead back to three.

Rookie Hudson Valley Renegades (13-6)

The Hudson Valley Renegades fell to the Staten Island Yankees 7-3. Tanner Dodson’s sacrifice fly tied the game at one in the top of the third. The Yankees scored six unanswered including four in the seventh. Chris Betts hit a two run homer in the top of the ninth to cap off scoring for Hudson Valley.

Rookie Princeton Rays (8-6)

The Princeton Rays game against the Burlington Royals was suspended due to rain tied 7-7 after seven innings. The Rays broke through first with a single run in the top of the second on a RBI groundout by Roberto Alvarez. The lead didn’t last long as the Royals answered with seven runs over two frames. Trailing 7-1 entering the fourth the Rays got one back after Wander Franco led off the inning with a triple and scored on a RBI single by Jordan Qsar. In the fifth Jonahtan Aranda’s RBI single brought home the first of three runs in the frame. Franco added a two-run single in the fourth to cut the deficit to two. In the sixth the Rays tied the game at seven with a RBI single by Aranda and a RBI groundout by Pedro Diaz.

GCL Rays (7-7)

The GCL Rays defeated the GCL Red Sox 5-4. Down 1-0 entering the fourth the Rays put up their first significant threat. Kevin Melendez came through with a RBI double and Diego Infante’s two-RBI single put the Rays up 3-1. The Red Sox tied the game at three in the bottom of the frame. In the top of the seventh Dawson Dimon singled ahead the go ahead run. Cristhian Pedroza grounded to third base, but beat the throw to first to give the Rays a two run lead. The Red Sox rallied for one run in the bottom of the eight, but came up short.

The DSL Rays 1 crushed the DSL Braves 17-6. The Rays 1 offense combined for 12 hits, 13 walks, and 4 batters hit by pitch. 1B Luis Perez led the way with two homers, a double, and nine RBI. Every batter for the Rays 1 picked up at least one hit and either walked or was hit by a pitch.
