Man what a day. Rays were active sellers (and buyers, really) all the way up to the 4:00 PM deadline. So what all happened?
Things started off with the Rays making an unusual in-divisional trade with the Red Sox. In return for an Eovaldi rental, the Rays got LHP Jaleen Beeks. Here’s what Wayne Cavardi from Minor League Ball had to say about the Rays return:
Rays sent Andriese to the Dbacks for Catcher MIchael Perez, who provides immediate help at catcher with Wilson Ramos hitting the DL (and, spoiler alert, eventually traded). Rays also acquire a low level piece in Brian Shaffer
Perez seems like key to #Rays trade of Andriese, a 25-year-old with strong defensive tools who is hitting .284 with six home runs and 29 RBI in 58 games for Triple-A Reno.— Marc Topkin (@TBTimes_Rays) July 25, 2018
In one of the best feel good stories of the year, Jonny Venters goes to his original team, the Atlanta Braves, for international slot money. I love baseball.
Rays Trade LHP Hunter Schryver to Chicago White Sox for International Slot Money
A minor move that might pay off dividends in the Rays pursuit of international FA this year. First reported by Neil Solandz, and supposedly up to $1 million.
Here’s what started the trade frenzy today, with an unexpected trade for OF Tommy Pham.

We all knew this trade was coming, some even wished it might not happen with Ramos on the DL with a hamstring injury, but the Rays found a partner with Philly.
Wilson Ramos’ reaction to being traded:
Here was the big one. After a frenzy of rumors, reported interest from multiple teams (including the Yankees at one point), it finally happened. Archer is going to the Steel City where he can re-join former Rays Corey Dickerson and Sean Rodriguez.
Nothing but , Arch.— Tampa Bay Rays (@RaysBaseball) July 31, 2018
