Rays prospects and minor leagues: McClanahan sharp in Princeton debut

Princeton wasted no time in utilizing the recently promoted Shane McClanahan.

Brendan McKay is the scheduled pitcher for Charlotte Saturday night, so fans in the area have a chance to check him out in Clearwater.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (72-57)

Austin Pruitt was sharp again in Durham’s 6-0 win over Norfolk. After throwing four scoreless innings in his last appearance, Pruitt threw six more against the Tides, striking out seven and giving up just two hits with no walks. In the seventh, Austin Meadows singled in two to break the scoreless tie, and Jason Coats hit a three-run homer in the eighth.

Montgomery rolled to a 10-2 win over Tennessee. Already leading 2-1, the Biscuits scored four two-out runs in the sixth. Jesus Sanchez doubled in the first run, and two more scored on Miles Mastrobuoni’s single. In the eighth, David Rodriguez doubled in a pair of runs, and Jake Cronenworth drove in two with a triple. After Spencer Jones opened, J.D. Martin allowed two runs in 5 13 innings.

Charlotte limited Clearwater to four singles but ultimately fell to the Threshers, 3-1. Clearwater made its hits count, totaling three of them in its three-run fifth inning. All seven of the Stone Crabs’ hits were singles, and they left six runners on base. Brandon Lawson allowed three runs — one earned — in five innings.

Bowling Green edged Lake County by a 3-2 score. Taylor Walls led off the game with a double and scored, and the Hot Rods extended their lead to 3-0 with two in the fifth. J.D. Busfield allowed two runs in six innings, and Tyler Day and Simon Rosenblum-Larson combined to throw three scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

Hudson Valley pitching shut down Tri-City in a 4-0 Renegades win. In six innings, Easton McGee struck out five and yielded just two hits and two walks. Jack Labosky finished the game with three strikeouts over the final three frames. Chris Betts doubled in the first two runs of the game in the third, and Hudson Valley added two more in the fourth.

Shane McClanahan quickly adjusted to the Appalachian League in Princeton’s 4-0 win over Danville. In three scoreless innings, the lefty struck out five and gave up just two hits and a walk. Rodolfo Sanchez was even better, striking out seven in five no-hit innings. In the third, Beau Brundage tripled and scored the first run of the game.

The GCL Rays earned a rain-shortened, 5-2 win over the GCL Orioles. After falling behind 2-0 in the bottom of the first, the GCL Rays immediately responded with four in the top of the second. Jelfry Marte doubled in two runs and scored himself on an error. Starter Francisco Sanchez was only able to record two outs, but Jose Roca and Jhoanbert Cedeno held the GCL Orioles scoreless over 6 13 innings out of the bullpen.
