Andrew Cashner Scouting Report

Andrew Cashner suffered one of the worst starts of his major league career during his last outing for the Orioles. He had been on a decent role prior to his past outing, even registering a quality start against the Rays on July 27th. However, on August 2nd, the Texas Rangers kicked him out of the game just two outs into the second inning. Cashner allowed a total of 10 runs on seven hits, while he walked three and struck out a batter. Every hitter who reached base in the game against him, came around to score.

In 2018, he has relied primarily on his Sinker using a Two-seam Fastball grip (93mph) and Fourseam Fastball (94mph), also mixing in a Curve (82mph), Cutter (87mph) and Change (84mph).

His sinker generates fewer whiffs/swing compared to other pitchers’ sinkers and has little sinking action compared to a true sinker. His fourseam fastball has essentially average velo and results in somewhat more flyballs compared to other pitchers’ fourseamers. His curve generates fewer whiffs/swing compared to other pitchers’ curves, is much harder than usual and has primarily 12-6 movement. His cutter generates more whiffs/swing compared to other pitchers’ cutters, results in many more groundballs compared to other pitchers’ cutters, has slightly below average velo and has some natural sink. His change is a prototypical pitch with few remarkable qualities.
