Wild Card Update: Rays surging, but too little too late?

New, comments

Despite winning 16 of 19, Rays remain 8 games out

MLB: Baltimore Orioles at Tampa Bay Rays Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Rays are the hottest team in baseball.

Since the start of play on August 19th, they have won 16 of their past 19 contests. That is the best mark in MLB over that time frame. They have outscored opponents with 111 runs to just 57 runs allowed.

Despite this, they have only managed to make up four games on the Oakland Athletics, who are in a surge of their own, winning 13 of 21 ballgames.

So, with just 20 games remaining on the schedule, the Rays trail the Oakland Athletics by eight games heading into tonight’s game.
