Rays well represented in Baseball America’s Top-100 prospects

Can you guess which Rays will make Baseball America’s Top-100 prospects for 2019?

MLB: Tampa Bay Rays-Media Day Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

SB Nation has been in contact with Baseball America ahead of the Top-100 being released tomorrow, and through that relationship we have learned that the Rays will have nine players listed.

The Rays have only six players listed in the midseason update, as led by RHP Brent Honeywell at No 16, and with SS Wander Franco joining him in the top twenty at No 19. The mid-season update also had LHP/1B Brendan McKay at No. 34, OF Jesus Sanchez at No. 50, and then LHP Matthew Liberatore at No. 71 and C Ronaldo Hernandez at No. 75.

Baseball America’s Top-10 Rays prospect list had all six of those players listed in a slightly different order this off-season, with Wander Franco leap frogging up to No. 1 on the list. It will be interesting to see how high Franco’s climb goes when the Top-100 is released tomorrow.

It’s likely to think the Rays Top-10 prospects will appear in the same order on the Top-100, but it’s interesting to note that the industry wide list was not locked until this weekend, so there could be some surprises ahead.

If there were no changes, the next three Rays on the BA Top-10 for 2019 were 2B Vidal Brujan, 2B Brandon Lowe, and 1B Nate Lowe, followed by a surprise listing of OF Moises Gomez at No. 10. Graduated from the list were SS Willy Adames, 1B Jake Bauers (who has since been traded), and 3B Christian Arroyo.

No other top prospects have been acquired since the Top-10 was published in October.
