Here’s a pre-Winter Meetings look at the current Rays roster

Things could look very different by next week.

The Winter Meetings have officially begun and things will inevitably pick up as rumors will begin to churn.

Of course, the Rays have already been active this offseason as they have parted ways several key members of their Wild Card winning 2019 squad.

Eric Sogard, Avisail Garcia, and Travis d’Arnaud have all left via free agency, with d’Arnaud receiving a two-year deal from the Atlanta Braves, and Garcia getting plenty of attention on the open market.

The Rays also parted ways with the likes of Jesus Aguilar and Jose De Leon in minor trades, while Matt Duffy and Guillermo Heredia were designated for assignment, eventually becoming free agents.

Then, in the most shocking move thus far, Tommy Pham was sent to the Padres for outfielder Hunter Renfroe in a five-player deal.

The other additions to the 40-man roster have been a slew of prospects that the Rays wished to protect from the Rule 5 draft (Kevin Padlo, Ronaldo Hernandez, Lucius Fox, and Vidal Brujan) and outfielder Brian O’Grady who the Rays acquired from the Cincinnati Reds.

As it stands the Rays currently have 38 players on their 40-man roster; 20 pitchers, 18 position players.
