Juan Toribio has penned a great profile on hyper-athletic prospect Vidal Brujan that is worth your time. In the piece, Brujan discusses losing his father, and dedicating this season to him with the goal of reaching the majors by 2020.
Rays News
St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman addresses the Tampa Bay Rays ($) - Kriseman thinks time is running out for the Rays to reach a stadium deal with the city. “I don’t truthfully think we have another year of indecision,” he said. “That’s a significant source of revenue, it’s a significant amount that will help get the stadium built. And if that goes away, it makes it very difficult — not impossible — but certainly very difficult to get a stadium done.”
If Chaz Roe has it made in the Rays bullpen, he has a funny way of showing it ($) - After 10 organizations, a stint in independent leagues and a drug suspension, the 32-year-old reliever finally has stability in Tampa Bay, but he’s not acting like it.
The Rays have removed the baseball diamond from their primary logo, matching the jersey with the logo used in the media, and added the Devil Ray sleeve patch to all uniform colors (great choice).
Ji-Man Choi continues to impress at first base with his defense, surprising us all!
Ji-Man Choi is more than a big bat. He can flash the leather a little bit, too!

#Rays Choi said he’s been “comfortable” at first base and happy with his defense thus far. He’s been impressive to Cash and the staff.

Rays prospect Joe McCarthy, who was drafted with back problems but has a major league projection on the bat, has been shut down. He’ll visit the team doc’s in St. Pete this week.
The #Rays Kevin Cash says Joe McCarthy has been shut down the past several days due to back issues with symptoms to those he had last year.

And other injury news:
The #Rays Ryan Yarbrough will throw a bullpen today. Matt Duffy ran the bases yesterday and will do so again today with plans to play Saturday
