Rays prospects and minor leagues: De Leon, Duffy rehab with Durham

For the first time in his pro career, Matt Duffy played the outfield Tuesday.

Tuesday, we started our draft previews here with a look at some college pitchers, one of whom will certainly not be drafted by the Rays now. We’ll look at even more players over the next two weeks.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (26-17)

Durham edged Norfolk, 4-3. Jose De Leon continued his rehab with Durham, tossing 2 23 scoreless innings. He was joined by Matt Duffy, who batted 0-for-4 as the Bulls’ left fielder. Christian Arroyo’s RBI double in the second gave Durham a 1-0 lead, and after Jake Cronenworth’s homer doubled the lead in the fifth, Arroyo hit an RBI triple. Jake Faria allowed all three Tides runs in 4 23 innings.

Class A-Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs (24-21)

Stephen Woods Jr. had his best outing yet in Charlotte’s 4-1 win over Jupiter. In his third appearance since returning from a shoulder injury, he pitched five innings, allowed just a run, and struck out five batters. Ronaldo Hernandez tripled in two runs in the first, and the Stone Crabs added two insurance runs in the ninth.

Bowling Green allowed three unanswered runs in a 4-3 loss to West Michigan. In the second, Ford Proctor tripled in a run and scored on Osmy Gregorio’s single. In the fourth, Beau Brundage’s RBI single extended the Hot Rods’ lead to 2-1, but they only had one hit the rest of the game. Matthew Liberatore struck out eight and allowed two runs — one earned — in five innings but walked five.
