Rays prospects and minor leagues: Jesus Sanchez powers Montgomery to a victory

Jesus Sanchez hit his fifth homer of the season.

Jesus Sanchez (Montgomery) led the way offensively with his fifth homer of the season and coming a triple short of the cycle. Shane McClanahan (Bowling Green) struck out seven in 6.0 innings.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (31-20)

The Durham Bulls fell short in a 8-2 loss to the Louisville Bats. Bulls bats scattered nine hits and six walks across nine innings. Nick Ciuffo had a three hit night including two doubles.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (30-21)

The Montgomery Biscuits rallied for a 9-4 victory over the Birmingham Barons. The Biscuits powered out to a 2-0 lead on a two run homer by Jesus Sanchez in the first. Birmingham responded with a four run fourth that temporarily gave them a 4-2 lead. Biscuits bats scored at least one run in the final five innings to cruise to the victory. Sanchez ended up a triple shy of the cycle. Lucius Fox and David Rodriguez hit homers.

Class A Bowling Green Hot Rods (31-20)

The Bowling Green Hot Rods couldn’t hold onto an early lead in a 8-5 defeat to the Great Lakes Loons. Bowling Green sprinted out to a 3-0 lead after one on a three run homer off the bat of Grant Witherspoon. Bowling Green temporarily took a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the eighth after allowing the Loons to tie the game in the top half of the frame. The Loons scored five in the ninth for the win. Shane McClanahan allowed two runs in 6.0 innings with seven strikeouts.
