Rays prospects and minor leagues: Joe Ryan continues impressive 2019.

Joe Ryan struck out 9 and allowed only 1 hit in 6.0 scoreless innings.

Wednesday was a busy day on the farm with three double headers. Joe Ryan (Charlotte) put another big start on the board striking out nine without walking anybody and allowing one hit in 6.0 scoreless innings.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (44-27)

The Durham Bulls won game one of a double header against the Pawtucket Red Sox 3-2. Pawtucket held a 2-0 lead through three. Nick Solak cut the lead to 2-1 with a RBI groundout in the fourth. In the sixth the Bulls scored two on a RBI single by Joe McCarthy and a RBI double by Jason Coats. Jake Cronenworth embraced the leadoff spot drawing four walks in four plate appearances.

The Durham Bulls completed the sweep in game two of the double header with a 5-4 victory. Jose De Leon had a tough time with the strike zone issuing three walks and hitting a batter in 2.0+ innings, but Pawtucket was only able to score one run through three innings. Durham answered with a four run fourth to take the 4-1 lead. Dalton Kelly and Brendan McKay hit RBI singles and Nathan Lukes capped off the frame with a 2-run single. After Pawtucket forced extras Nate Lowe put plated the game winning run with a RBI single.

Class A-Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs (37-32)

The Charlotte Stone Crabs dropped game one of the double header against the For t Myers Miracle 4-3. The Stone Crabs quickly fell behind 3-0 through two innings. In the sixth the Stone Crabs game back with three runs. Sacrifice flies by Moises Gomez and Garrett Whitley sandwiched a RBI single by Kaleo Johnson to score the runs. Royce Lewis hit a walk off homer for his second homer of the game.

The Stone Crabs shutout the Miracle 5-0 in game two. In the second inning Kaleo Johnson put the Stone Crabs on the board with a sacrifice fly. In the third Taylor Walls hit a RBI groundout to put the Stone Crabs up 2-0. In the sixth Ronaldo Hernandez’s RBI single put them up 3-0. Jim Haley hit a 2-run single in the seventh to add some insurance runs. Joe Ryan continues to impress with 6.0 shutout innings allowing only a single hit while striking out nine.

Short Season Hudson Valley Renegades (2-4)

The Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Vermont Lake Monsters 5-4. The game was scoreless through seven. In the Renegades scored three runs in the seventh all on errors. The Renegades responded by allowing two runs in the bottom of the eight on a balk and wild pitch. Christian Pedroza added two much needed insurance runs in the ninth.

The Princeton Rays lost their first game of the season 3-2 to the Danville Braves. Yunior Martinez’s solo homer in the fifth tied the game at one. The Rays took a 2-1 lead in the eighth on a Brett Wisely sacrifice fly, but couldn’t hold on to the lead.
