Rays: 5, Athletics: 3 - High Power for Brandon Lowe & Willy Adames

The kids & bullpen help the Rays win a close game!

MLB: Tampa Bay Rays at Oakland Athletics Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports

The baseball gods have not been good to the Rays recently. Let’s hope their luck changes in this game. Rays send Andrew Kittredge up against Tanner Anderson.

I like Oakland. Especially in these retro-unis. Top 5 in MLB for sure.

  1. Devil Rays (obviously)
  2. Pittsburgh Pirates
  3. Cincinnati Reds
  4. Oakland Athletics
  5. Houston Astros

Rays got things going in the 3rd inning off a Brandon Lowe double to score Guillermo Heredia.

Lowe scored on the next pitch off a passed ball.

Andrew Kittredge did a solid job as the opener, going 2.0 IP with 2 H, 1 BB, and 3 Ks, and made way for Jaleen Beeks.

Beeks got the 1st two batters out!

And then gave up a HR to Matt Olson to cut the Rays’ lead in half.

Rays got something going in the 4th again on a Heredia groundout to score Kiermaier.

BUT:

3-2 Rays. I blame Ian’s article on Jalen Beeks. Someone start a petition to not have articles come out about pitchers when they starting.

Rays got one run back off a Willy Adames HR, which was welcomed after an earlier error.

After Jalen Beeks came Austin Pruitt. Beeks went 2.0 IP with 2 ER, 3 H, 0 BB and 1 strikeout. Pruitt looked good, until he got to the 8th inning, giving up a leadoff double to Matt Chapman. That would get Kevin Cash to bring out the Hook and play matchups as he called on Colin Poche to face the lefty Matt Olson.

2 pitches, and 1 run later and the Oakland A’s find themselves within 1, again.

4-3 Rays.

Pruitt had a solid night, however, giving the bullpen 3 solid innings, with 4 H 1 ER, 0 BB and 0 strikeouts!

Cash went to Chaz Roe who got Khris Davis to ground out, and struck out Ramon Laureano before Oliver Drake came on to get Jurickson Profar to ground out and preserve the Rays’ lead at 1.

Some insurance runs would come in the top of the 9th off a Brandon Lowe double to score Wily Adames and make it 5-3 Rays.

Oliver Drake would come out for the 9th and after an 11 pitch battle with Stephen Piscotty, walked him, which is probably better tbh. Drake got Robbit Grossman to strike out, but due to the Piscotty AB, Cash had to go to Emilio Pagan for the final two outs.

Pagan only needed 3 pitches to save the game for the Rays and get the last two batters out.

Rays win 5-3, snap another four game losing streak and move to 44-32, still 4.5 games out of 1st because the Yankees also won. sigh. i

A new day and hopefully a new winning streak starts tomorrow! 1st pitch is at 4:05pm. Rays will send Opener/Bulk vs Mike Fiers.
