Rays prospects and minor leagues: Nick Solak hits 16th homer of the season.

Nick Solak (Durham) continues to smash the baseball with his 16th homerun of the season. Joe McCarthy and Jake Cronenworth also homered for Durham. Nick Schnell (GCL) tripled in his season debut.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (47-29)

The Durham Bulls defeated the Charlotte Knights 7-2. Nick Solak’s two-run homer in the first gave the Bulls an early 2-0 lead. After the Knights tied things up in third Joe McCarthy’s third homer of the year put the Bulls up for good in the fifth. Jake Cronenworth added a solo shot in the sixth. Kean Wong’s RBI double and Nick Solak’s RBI single added insurance runs in the eighth.

The Montgomery Biscuits fell to the Tennessee Smokies 6-2. The Biscuits got on the board first with a solo homer off the bat of Brett Sullivan. The Biscuits tried to mount a rally with a RBI single by Jermaine Palacios in the ninth.

The Charlotte Stone Crabs had a scheduled day off. The Rays have promoted consensus number one overall prospect Wander Franco and should be making his debut this evening. Port Charlotte has a $2 Tuesday promotion that features $2 tickets, $2 parking, $2 hot dogs, and $2 soda for those interested in making the 90 minute drive down to Port Charlotte.

The GCL Rays lost their season opener to the GCL Red Sox 5-4. The Red Sox scored three in the first to take a 3-0 lead. Daiwer Castellanos singled home a runs in the second and fourth to cut the lead to 3-2. The Red Sox added two runs in the fifth to extend the lead to 5-2. Abiezel Ramirez singled home a run in the seventh and Julio Meza singled home a run in the eighth, but the tying run was thrown out at home.

Dominican Summer League Rays 1 (10-10)

The DSL Rays 1 defeated the DSL Red Sox 1 6-5. The Red Sox 1 went ahead 2-0 with single runs in the first and third. The Rays 1 cut the lead to one in the bottom of the third on a RBI groundout by Cesar Aponte. In the fourth the Red Sox 1 added on two runs to extend their lead to 4-1. A four run fifth put the Rays 1 up 5-4. Stir Candelario and Estanli Castillo hit RBI-singles in the frame. The Red Sox 1 tied the game up in the eighth, but Alejandro Pie walked it off with a RBI single.

The DSL Rays 2 fell to the DSL Red Sox 2 4-2. The Rays 2 scored first with a RBI groundout by Ryson Polonius in the third. In the fourth they added a run on a wild pitch. The Red Sox 2 came back with two runs in the sixth and seventh to secure the victory.
