The Tampa Bay Rays selected LHP John Doxakis out of Texas A&M with their second round pick and 61st overall pick.

Doxakis throws a 88-93 mph fastball. He has low 80s slider that he’s able to manipulate break and speed. His changeup lags behind his other two offerings. He excels at throwing strikes and has a deceptive delivery.

Even though he doesn’t light up the radar guy as a starter when he threw as reliever as a freshman he topped out at 97.

Doxakis went to Lamar (Houston, Texas) High School. The same high school as former Ray Jeff Neimann.

Most of the public lists found him settling around 50th overall. MLB.com had him 44th, Keith Law had him ranked 52nd, and Baseball America had him at 53rd. FanGraphs were the lowest on him at 111th overall seeing him as a pitchability lefty that can eat innings.

In a draft without impact drafting the Rays found two of the highest upside arms in JJ Goss and Seth Johnson along with a solid SEC performer.
