Rays prospects and minor leagues: Wander Franco walks-off for Bowling Green

Wander Franco (Bowling Green) came through in the clutch with a walk-off single. Michael Perez (Durham) continued his rehab in AAA. Ian Gibaut (Charlotte) made a rehab appearance.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (35-26)

The Durham Bulls defeated the Gwinnett Stripers 12-3. A second inning two run homer off the bat of Emilio Bonifacio. Gwinnett quickly tied the game at two in the bottom of the frame. Durham put up a four spot in the fifth with RBI singles by Michael Perez and Nate Lowe. The Bulls put up four more in the seventh with an RBI double by Jake Smolinski being the big hit of the frame. Jose De Leon went 4.0 innings for the first time as he rehabs from Tommy John surgery.

The Montgomery Biscuits defeated the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 3-2. Kevin Padlo hit a pair of solo homers to score the Biscuits first two runs and tie the game at two in the fourth. Jermaine Palacios hit the go ahead homer in the ninth. Brian Shaffer threw 5.0 scoreless as a bulk guy.

The Charlotte Stone Crabs fell to the Palm Beach Cardinals 12-5. Teams traded runs in the first. The Stone Crabs took a 3-1 lead with a RBI double by Taylor Walls and RBI single by Jim Haley in the third.

Class A Bowling Green Hot Rods (35-26)

The Bowling Green Hot Rods defeated the West Michigan Whitecaps 7-6. After falling behind 3-0 the Hot Rods rallied for three in the bottom of the fourth with Chris Betts’ two run single provided most of the damage. In the sixth the Whitecaps took a 5-3 lead before the Hot Rods answered with three in the bottom of the frame. The Whitecaps tied the game in the ninth. Wander Franco came up with a chance to walk it off. He took a pitch opposite field against the shift for the walk-off victory.

The DSL Rays 1 defeated the DSL Red Sox 1 4-2. The Rays 1 took a 2-0 lead with a RBI triple by Bryan Santos and RBI single by Cesar Aponte in the fourth. The Red Sox 1 tied it up in the sixth before the Rays 1 countered with two in the bottom of the frame on another Aponte RBI single and a bases loaded hit by pitch by Alejandro Pie.

Dominican Summer League Rays 2 (3-3)

The DSL Rays 2 defeated the DSL Red Sox 2 3-1. The Rays 2 got on the board first with a RBI double off the bat of Dahiandy Johnson in the fourth. Oneill Manzueta drew a bases loaded walk in the fifth to take a 2-0 lead. Johnson added a solo homer in the eighth to extend the lead to 3-0. The Red Sox 2 rallied for one in the ninth, but just like their major league club they fell short.
