Rays prospects and minor leagues: Joe McCarthy hits his sixth homer of the year.

Sandy Gaston goes 4.0 scoreless in his best professional start.

Joe McCarthy (Durham) hit his sixth homer of the year. Sandy Gaston (GCL) made his best start of his young professional career with 4.0 scoreless innings with a single and a hit by pitch as the only blemishes.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (56-39)

The Durham Bulls fell to the Toledo Mud Hens 9-1. Joe McCarthy hit a solo homer in the second for the lone run for the Bulls. The Mud Hens put three spots around the McCarthy homer to take a 6-1 lead through one.

The Montgomery Biscuits defeated the Pensacola Blue Wahoos 6-2. Pensacola took an early lead with a run in the first. Montgomery didn’t put anything together until they put three on the board in fifth with RBI singles by Miles Mastrobuoni and Josh Lowe along with a RBI triple by Vidal Brujan. Lucius Fox added an RBI single in the sixth ahead of Rene Pinto’s 2-RBI double to extend the Biscuits lead to 6-1.

The Charlotte Stone Crabs enjoyed the day off.

Class A Bowling Green Hot Rods (56-38)

The Bowling Green Hot Rods defeated the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 8-4. Down 2-0, Chris Betts put the Hot Rods on the board with a RBI double. A wild pitch tied the game before Jordan Qsar’s 2-RBI single gave the Hot Rods a 4-2 lead through three. The Hot Rods added on two more runs in the fourth with RBI singles by Ford Proctor and Betts. Connor Hollis added insurance runs with a solo homer in the seventh and a RBI single in the eighth.

The Hudson Valley Renegades fell to the Mahoning Valley Scrappeds 6-5 by walkoff. The Scrappers held a 4-0 lead heading into the sixth when Luis Trevino git a three run homer to cut the deficit to one. In the seventh Garrett Hiott tripled home the tying run and scored the go ahead run on Jacson McGowan’s sacrifice fly. The Renegades couldn’t hold onto the 5-4 lead in the ninth.

The GCL Rays defeated the GCL Twins 3-1. Julio Meza put the Rays up 1-0 with a RBI single in the first. Oneill Manzueta reached on a throwing error that scored the second run of the game and scored on a RBI groundout by Abiezel Ramirez to take a 3-0 lead through three. Sandy Gaston went 4.0 scoreless.

The DSL Rays 2 defeated the DSL Dodgers Shoemaker 9-6. Angel Lopez got the scoring started with a RBI double in the second ahead of a 2-RBI single by Cesar Aponte that gave the Rays 2 an early 3-0 lead. The Dodgers Shoemaker cut the lead to 3-2 before the Rays 2 blew the game open in the fourth for four runs. Freddvil Chevez’s 2-RBI single capped scoring in the frame. Nigel Calmes brought home two with a single in the fifth.
