Rays prospects and minor leagues: Nick Schnell hits first homer with Princeton

Joe Ryan puts up another solid performance for the Stone Crabs.

Nick Schnell (Princeton) homered in his first gave with the club. Joe Ryan (Charlotte) continues to put up good results with one earned run in 6.1 IP with seven strikeouts. Angel Lopez (DSL Rays 2) hit a walk-off homer.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (49-34)

The Durham Bulls fell to the Charlotte Knights 4-3. Jose De Leon gave up single runs in the first four frames to put the Bulls behind 4-0. De Leon was more in command than in his previous outings, but also was hit around a bit. He struck out nine and walked one in 4.2 innings of work. The Bulls scored their first run on a balk in the sixth inning. In the seventh the Bulls pulled to within one run with a RBI double by Anthony Bemboom and RBI single by Jason Coats.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (50-32)

The Montgomery Biscuits lost to the Jackson Generals 10-3. The Biscuits scored three runs in the first to take the 3-0 lead. The first run scored on a throwing error by the catcher when Vidal Brujan and Taylor Walls double stole second and third. Tristan Gray brought home the second run on a fielder’s choice. Brett Sullivan stole home as part of a double steal with Lucius Fox to plate the third run. The Generals put the game out of reach with a seven run second inning to take a 7-3 lead.

The Charlotte Stone Crabs fell to the St. Lucie Mets 6-2. Jake Palomaki tied the game at one in the third with a sacrifice fly. The game remained tied at one until the seventh when the Mets took a 2-1 lead. Carl Chester tripled home a run in the eighth to tie the game at two. The Mets responded with four runs in the ninth to secure the victory.

The Bowling Green Hot Rods defeated the Lansing Lugnuts 4-1 to win their seventh in a row. The Hot Rods did all their damage with a four run fourth inning. Tony Pena singled home the first run of the game. Izzy Wilson singled home two. Jordan Qsar stole home as part of a double steal with Wilson for the fourth run of the frame.

The Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Brooklyn Cyclones 3-2. Beau Brundage brought home the first run of the game with a RBI groundout in the first. Garret Hiott doubled home a run in the third. Nick Sogard singled home a run in fourth to take a 3-0 lead. The Cyclones responded with two runs in the fifth, but couldn’t find the equalizer.

The Princeton Rays defeated the Burlington Royals 3-0. Nick Schnell homered in his first game with Princeton in the fourth inning. Gionti Turner grounded out to bring home the second run of the inning to take a 2-0 lead. Turner added a homer in the seventh.

The Royals 1 tied the game at two with single runs in the third and sixth. In the tenth the Rays 1 put up three runs with RBI singles by Cesar Aponte, Santos, and Estanli Castillo.

The Cubs 1 responded with four in the seventh to cut the lead to one. The Rays 1 added an insurance run in the seventh. The Cubs 1 tied the game at eight in the eighth. Angel Lopez hit a two run walk-off homer.
