Thursday, the Rays announced that reigning Cy Young winner Blake Snell was placed on the 10-day injured list with loose bodies in his elbow. The team expects him to be ready to pitch sometime in September.
He will have surgery on the elbow, according to The Athletic’s Josh Tolentino.
This season, Snell has a 4.28 ERA in 101 innings. His last four starts suggested a return to 2018 form. He had a 1.64 ERA in 22 innings with 31 strikeouts and just six walks.
He joins fellow starter Tyler Glasnow on the IL. He has not pitched since May 10 due to a forearm strain.
The team has not yet announced a corresponding roster move. After an off day, the Rays begin a series in Toronto Friday.
