Caleb Sampen with another strong 6.0 inning start for Bowling Green.

Caleb Sampen (Bowling Green) continued his strong season allowing one run in 6.0 innings while striking out six. JJ Goss (GCL) made his MLB debut. Goss allowed three runs including a homer in 1.0 inning of work.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (53-37)

The Durham Bulls had the day off.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (55-34)

The Montgomery Biscuits defeated the Tennessee Smokies 6-1. The Smokies got on the board first with a first inning run. Jesus Sanchez tripled home the tying run int he third. The game stayed tied at one until Lucius Fox doubled hom the go ahead run in the sixth. Vidal Brujan doubled home a run in the seventh. In the eighth Rene Pinto doubled home two runs and Miles Mastrobuoni singled home the final run.

Class A Bowling Green Hot Rods (53-35)

The Bowling Green Hot Rods defeated the West Michigan Whitecaps 5-3. The Whitecaps took a 1-0 lead in the first. Bowling Green tied the game with a Jonathan Aranda RBI single in the fourth. Osmy Gregorio put the Hot Rods ahead 2-1 on a RBI single in the fifth. In the seventh Izzy Wilson hit a three run homer to secure the victory.

The Hudson Valley Renegades shutout the Vermont Lake Monsters 2-0 for their fourth straight victory. Cristhian Pedroza’s RBI groundout in the second scored the Renegades first run. In the eighth Hill Alexander added a RBI groundout in the eighth. Zack Trageton threw six shutout innings with five strikeouts and no walks.

Short Season Princeton Rays (10-10)

The Princeton Rays defeated the Bluefield Blue Jays 8-4. The Blue Jays took a 1-0 lead in the second before the Rays answered with four runs over the next three frames. Jhosner Vargas doubled home a run in the second to tie the game. In the third the Rays added two runs on a RBI groundout and throwing error. In the fourth Nick Schnell tacked on a run with a sacrifice fly. In the fifth the Rays added on two runs iwth a RBI triple by Aldenis Sanchez and RBI single by Vargas. In the seventh the Rays tacked on two more runs with RBI singles by Sanchez and Vargas.

The GCL Rays fell to the GCL Red Sox 13-3. The Rays were down 10-0 before they got on the board with a RBI triple by Julio Meza in the sixth. After allowing three more runs the Rays put up single runs in the eighth and ninth on RBI singles by Amador Arias and Ryan Fineman. JJ Goss struggled in his professional debut.

Dominican Summer League Rays 1 (17-15)

The DSL Rays 1 defeated the DSL Astros 5-4. In the bottom of the third the Rays 1 tied the game at one on a failed pickoff throw by the catcher. In the fifth Cristopher Barete singled home a run to tie the game at two. In the sixth Rainer Polonius homered to take a 3-2 lead. Barete singled home in the seventh to extend the lead to 4-2. In the tenth the Rays 1 walked off with a victory on a bases loaded groundout when Stir Candelario beat out the attempted double play.

The DSL Rays 2 fell to the DSL Pirates 1 6-5. Down 3-1 the Rays 2 rallied for four runs in the seventh on a Angel Lopez bases loaded walk, Roimer Bolivar sacrifice fly, and 2-RBI single by Patrick Merino. The Rays 2 couldn’t hold onto the lead as they allowed three runs in the bottom of the ninth.
