Rays prospects and minor leagues: Durham holds on to slim playoff hopes with win

The Bulls look to finish the final week strong.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (71-62)

The Durham Bulls defeated the Charlotte Knights 7-3. Emilio Bonifacio singled home the first run of the game in the second inning. In the fourth Jason Coats drove home a run with a groundout and Jake Cronenworth added a sacrifice fly to give the Bulls a 3-0 lead. Kean Wong singled home a run in the eighth and Daniel Robertson picked up a bases loaded walk to extend the Bulls a 6-2 lead. Mac James RBI single added an insurance run in the ninth.

Class A-Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs (80-52)

The Charlotte Stone Crabs fell to the Florida Fire Frogs 5-4 in extras. In the first the Stone Crabs sprinted out to a 2-0 lead after a passed ball and a sacrifice fly by Moises Gomez. In the third the Fire Frogs tied the game at two. Jake Palomaki and Zach Rutherford’s RBI singles gave the Stone Crabs a 4-2 lead. In the seventh the Fire Frogs tied it. In the tenth the Fire Frogs scored the game winning run while the Stone Crabs were unable to answer in the bottom of the frame.

The Bowling Green Hot Rods defeated the South Bend Cubs 4-3 in game one of a double header. The Hot Rods took an early 3-0 lead in the first. Jordan Qsar earned a bases loaded walk. Seaver Whalen was hit by a pitch to drive in the second run and Chris Betts sacrifice fly drove in the third run. In the fourth the Cubs tied the game at three. Chris Betts drove home the game winning run with a single in the fifth.

In game two the Hot Rods defeated the Cubs 7-2. The Cubs took an early 1-0 lead with Osmy Gregorio giving the Hot Rods a 2-1 lead with a two-run homer in the third. In the fifth an error extended the Hot Rods lead to 3-1. In the sixth the Hot Rods added four runs. Roberto Alvarez started the scoring with a 2-run single ahead of Tony Pena’s RBI single. Jonathan Aranda plated the final run iwth a RBI groundout.

Nick Sogard singled home a run in the fifth to take a 2-1 lead. In the sixth the Tigers scored two to take a 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the inning the Renegades tied the game on a wild pitch and took the lead with a 2-RBI single by KV Edwards.

Gionti Turner added an insurance run with a RBI double in the eighth.
