Rays prospects and minor leagues: Durham Bulls complete sweep and cut wild card deficit to 1

With four games left the Bulls are making a late season playoff push.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (73-62)

The Durham Bulls defeated the Charlotte Knights 3-2. Charlotte took a 2-0 lead on two solo homers in the front four innings. Michael Perez’s solo homer cut the deficit to 2-1 in the sixth. In the seventh the Bulls plated two runs on a bases loaded walk by Nate Lowe and hit by pitch by Michael Brosseau. The Bulls swept the Knights to cut the Knights lead in the Wild Card to one with four games left to play.

The Bowling Green Hot Rods fell to the Lake County Captains 5-1. Seaver Whalen singled home the lone run for the Hot Rods in the fourth. In the tenth the Captains scored four runs to secure the victory.

The Hudson Valley Renegades fell to the Staten Island Yankees 3-2. Greg Jones drove home the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly in the third inning. Jacson McGowan’s RBI double gave the Renegades a 2-0 lead in the fourth. In the seventh the Yankees tied the game and scored the game winning run in the eighth.

The Princeton Rays defeated the Pulaski Yankees 10-3. The Rays sprinted out to a 3-0 lead thanks to a 2-run homer by Luis Leon and a RBI single by Gionti Turner. In the fourth the Rays extended their lead to 5-2 with a two-run homer by Daiwer Castellanos. In the sixth Angelo Armenta drove home two runs with a triple and scored on Nate Soria’s groundout. Castellanos singled home a run in the seventh and Aldenis Sanchez drove in the final run with a groundout in the eighth. In five innings the Rays starter Stanly Sabino struck out 11 without a walk.

In the regularly scheduled game the Rays defeated the Orioles 7-2. Johan Lopez and Dylan Cozens kicked things off with solo homers in the first. Freddvill Chevez plated the third run of the inning with a RBI double. Jelfry Marte hit a RBI single in the second to extend the lead to 4-0. Juan Garcia singled home a run in the third and Cozens extended the lead to 6-0 with a sacrifice fly. Johampher Arrendoll capped off scoring in the game with a RBI single in the fourth.
