Rays prospects and minor leagues: Ruben Cardenas hit first homerun as a Ray

Ruben Cardenas hit his first homer since being traded to the Rays last week.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (62-48)

The Durham Bulls had a scheduled day off.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (73-42)

The Montgomery Biscuits defeated the Chattanooga Lookouts 9-4. Taylor Walls put the Biscuits up 1-0 with a sacrifice fly in the first. Jim Haley added a solo homer in the fourth to extend the lead to 2-0. The Lookouts rallied for three runs in the sixth to take a 3-2 lead. Josh Lowe tied the game in the bottom of the frame with a RBI double and scored the go ahead run on a wild pitch. Vidal Brujan and Tristan Gray collected bases loaded walks and Miles Mastrobuoni’s 2-RBI single extended the Biscuits lead to 9-3.

The Charlotte Stone Crabs game against the Bradenton Marauders was suspended in the eighth with the Marauders leading 2-1. The second game was postponed.

Class A Bowling Green Hot Rods (64-49)

The Bowling Green Hot Rods defeated the Lansing Lugnuts 3-1 in game one of the double header. Ford Proctor’s RBI double put the Hot Rods on the board in the third. In the fourth Ruben Cardenas homered to extend the Hot Rods lead to 2-0. In the sixth Grant Witherspoon added an insurance run with a RBI double.

In game two the Hot Rods fell 6-3. The Hot Rods were trailing 3-0 in the sixth. Jonathan Aranda’s two run homer and Seaver Whalen’s RBI single tied the game. However that was all the offense the Hot Rods would push across the plate.

The Hudson Valley Renegades lost to the Brooklyn Cyclones 3-2. Brooklyn took an early 1-0 lead before the Renegades tied the game with a Jacson McGowan RBI single in the sixth. KV Edwards’ solo homer gave the Renegades a 2-1 lead that was short lived as the Cyclones scored two in the bottom of the seventh.

Dominican Summer League Rays 1 (20-33)

The DSL Rays 1 defeated the DSL Braves 5-3. Estanli Castillo’s RBI groundout put the Rays 1 up 1-0 in the first. The Braves answered with two runs in the third. Castillo stole home as part of a double steal in the fourth to tie the game at two. The Rays 1 put up three runs in the sixth to secure the victory on a fielding error, wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly.

The DSL Rays 2 defeated the DSL Indians/Brewers 17-2. It didn’t take long for the Rays 2 offense to get going with a nine run outburst in the first. The Rays 2 tacked on six runs in the sixth to extend the lead to 15-2 before scoring single runs in the final two frames.
