Rays drop out of the 1st WC after a series loss to Texas.

MLB: Tampa Bay Rays at Texas Rangers Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

The Rays leave Texas for California no longer in the Wild Card 1 spot (0.5 GB of Oakland) and just 0.5 game up on Cleveland. It’s very possible that the season will come down to how Cleveland performs vs Minnesota and the Rays perform vs the Angels in Anaheim.

After this past Rangers series though, it’s reasonable to feel despair set in and start making plans for October that do not involve baseball. After all, we have seen this story unfold before. Cleveland seems almost locked into a mid 90s win total with lots of winnable series left. Oakland may be the first Wild Card team to hit 100 wins as they do not face an above .500 team the rest of the regular season. The Rays have the hardest road left, and seem to be the most on the ropes team of the three. If they are going to make the postseason, it will have to be well earned.

Rays have the perfect part of the rotation to bounce back against and get back to winning games, hold on to a Wild Card spot as Charlie Morton leads it off, with Glasnow and Yarbrough to follow.
