Rays prospects and minor leagues: Brett Sullivan homers twice

Durham, Montgomery, and Hudson Valley pick up wins to start their playoff runs. Bowling Green loses.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (75-64)

The Durham Bulls defeat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 9-3 in game one of their playoff series. Michael Brosseau’s RBI double put the Bulls up 1-0 in the first. In the fourth the RailRiders scored their first run on an Erik Kratz homer. It would be the only run the RailRiders would manage off Bulls starter Jose De Leon in five innings on the mound. In the fifth Kevin Padlo’s solo homer gave the Bulls a 2-1 lead. In the sixth Jason Coats broke open the game with a three run homer to extend the lead to 5-1. In the eighth Nathan Lukes pulled off the first and third bunt play to score a run ahead of Padlo’s bases loaded walk. Jake Cronenworth added two runs with a single to extend the lead to 9-2.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (88-50)

The Montgomery Biscuits shutout the Jackson Generals 4-0 in the opening game of their playoff series. Paul Campbell threw 7.0 shutout innings while picking up six strikeouts and only allowing two hits, two walks, and a hit batter. In the first Brett Sullivan homered to give the Biscuits a 2-0 lead. In the fifth Lucius Fox stole third base and scored on an errant throw to extend the lead to 3-0. In the eighth Sullivan scored the final run with his second homer of the game.

The Bowling Green Hot Rods dropped the first game of their playoff series against the South Bend Cubs 2-1. The Cubs scored two runs in the first. The Hot Rods would be held off the board until the eighth inning. Ford Proctor scored on a wild pitch.

Short Season Hudson Valley Renegades (43-32)

The Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Brooklyn Cyclones 5-4 in their first game of the playoff series. Ben Troike doubled home the first run of the game for the Renegades in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Cyclones came back to tie it in the third. The Renegades quickly responded with a Luis Leon sacrifice fly and solo homer by Jacson McGowan to give the Renegades a 3-1 lead. The lead didn’t last long as Brooklyn responded with two runs in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 3. In the fifth the Cyclones took a 4-3 lead. In the bottom of the fifth Greg Jones hit a game winning two-run homer to give the Renegades a 5-4 lead.
