The Rays have a two-game lead in the ALCS. They’re two wins away from the World Series. They’ve played some amazing defense, and the pitching has gotten out of tons of danger. Why do we still feel a little nervous?
Is it because the Astros have made tons of hard contact against both Blake Snell and Charlie Morton? Is it because Nick Anderson finally seemed at least mortal yesterday, and this insane postseason schedule may finally be catching up to him? Maybe deep down in our hearts we know that just one ball might get past Joey Wendle or Willy Adames, or get under the glove of Ji-Man Choi, or fall harmlessly into foul territory without Manuel Margot snatching it out of the sky. And that may come at a time where the Astros finally cash in, and make the Rays bats play catch up for real.
The nerves come with the territory, and for better or for worse, they’ll be back tonight for Game 3. Keep on keeping on, Rays.
