How are we feeling today Rays fans?

I was chatting the other day with a friend whose team was eliminated in the Wild Card round and I was feeling....jealous! You are lucky, I said. You can look at all these great Division Series matchups and just pick a team to support. You can be happy if they win and go on with your life if they lose.

I on the other hand will be sweating every pitch. I would be anyway, but with the Rays facing the Yankees, where whiny entitlement is the life juice that binds manager, players and fans (except my beloved nephew and maybe a few other people), I am truly a wreck.

After that conversation I reflected for a minute and thought: WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH YOU. My team has overcome injuries to make it to the playoffs. As baseball fans, this is what we live for! So I am working very hard to make sure the joy of the moment does not get washed away by anxiety.

What about the rest of you?

And by the way, do you prefer to see the Rays as underdogs or favorites? Because either way Fangraphs has you covered.

Their traditional projection system sees the Yankees as clear favorites:

Zips however likes the Rays, and likes them a lot. The Rays are even favored in the Cole-Snell match-up:

As a big believer in the evil eye, I’ll go with the standard projections and assume the Rays are underdogs.

And stay tuned for series and pitcher previews coming up later today and tomorrow.
