I was hoping we never had to do one of these after a loss.
I’ll be honest, I had nerves going into this one. But, when the Rays had the lead against Gerrit Cole going into the 5th inning, I felt great. Then, Kevin Cash made some questionable decisions. You can debate whether or not these decisions were right or wrong, but the fact of the matter is, they weren’t typical Kevin Cash decisions.
Letting Blake Snell go back out for the fifth inning to face the top of the Yankees order a third time through, going to John Curtiss in a one-run game in the ninth inning and leaving him out to dry. Not pinch hitting for Manuel Margot with the bases loaded and two outs in the fifth.
Again, some of these decisions may have been smart, but it didn’t feel like Vintage Cash. We debate on the show why these decisions were made, and why they may help or hurt the team moving forward in this series.
Oh well, we’re all experiencing the no-days-off ALDS for the first time together. We’ll be recording another instant reaction pod after Game 2, and hopefully we’re a little more chipper.
