Tampa Bay couple get married at Tropicana Field

The Rays did what they could to improve one pair’s 2020 luck.

Ashley Hill probably wasn’t expecting much when she reached out to the Tampa Bay Rays this spring, but following a terrible start to the year, and then losing her May wedding venue on top of it all, she decided to throw caution to the wind.

According to the weekend feature in the Tampa Bay Times, Hill reached out to two venues in a desperate bid to save her looming wedding day to fiance Ron White. One was the Florida Aquarium the other the Tampa Bay Rays.

While Hill might not have anticipated a response of any kind, the folks on the other end of the email at the Rays front office knew they had to do something, and that something involved Rays mascot Raymond serving as ring bearer, Rays’ security and stadium operations director Jim Previtera acting as officiant, and two matching number 20 jerseys that said “Together” and “Since” on the back.

Not to mention the added bonus of official Rays photographer Will Vragovic snapping photos of the day.

Hill and White were only have to have a small ceremony, with 18 guests in attendance, but they were also congratulated via video message by Austin Meadows and Kevin Kiermaier.

The rest of Ashley and Ron’s story — and it’s a very worthwhile read — was written by John Romano and is available here.
