The Tampa Bay Rays have finalized their 28-man roster for the best of three Wild Card round against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Ji-Man Choi and Yandy Diaz will both make their returns to the active roster after prolonged stints on the Injury List. Choi last played on September 12th before he went down with a hamstring injury. Meanwhile Diaz has been out of action since August 31st, when left a game against the Yankees with a hamstring injury of his own.
The roster also features one of the Rays top prospects as they’ve added LHP Shane McClanahan to their active roster; McClanahan will be making his Major League debut. To clear room on the 40-man roster, the Rays designated Sean Gilmartin for assignment.
The Rays will roll with just two catchers, making the decision to drop Kevan Smith. Meanwhile, Josh Fleming, who has been excellent since making his debut earlier this season, was also left off the roster. However, if the Rays are able to advance to the next round of the playoffs, Fleming is almost certain to be included.
