Baseball Prospectus has released their top 101 prospects in the game entering the 2021 season and it comes as no surprise that Wander Franco is the highest ranked player on the list.

He is among seven players within the Rays organization to be featured. Well many of those seven names are expected, the high placement of pitcher Shane Baz may come as a bit of a surprise.

The complete rankings of the Rays prospects included on the list.

1. Wander Franco, SS
20. Randy Arozarena, OF
24. Shane Baz, RHP
25. Luis Patino, RHP
67. Vidal Brujan, INF
80. Shane McClanahan, LHP
93. Xavier Edwards, INF

The Rays farm system boasts four players among the top 25 and seven overall in the top 101.

Wander Franco has now been ranked the game’s number one overall prospect entering 2021 by the leading prospect pundits, including Baseball America, which named him their top prospect for the second year in a row. Only four players have been listed at number one for two years running in Baseball America’s history.

Randy Arozarena continues his ascent of prospect leaderboards following his historic postseason run. Meanwhile, Shane Baz, the third piece of the Chris Archer trade, receives very high praise from BP, as they have him nestled in as the 24th best prospect and 3rd best in the Rays system. Luis Patino, the prize of the Blake Snell deal, slides in directly behind Baz at 25th overall.

All seven players on the top 101 will likely see time with the Rays during the 2021 regular season, if it is indeed a ‘regular’ season. Arozarena, Patino, Brujan, and McClanahan are already on the 40-man roster while Franco, Edwards, and Baz could be knocking on the door in the very near future.
