The Rays announced two transactions before the start of today’s game.
First, Ji-Man Choi has been activated. Choi has been on the IL since the start of the season with a sore knee. After a short rehab stint with the Durham Bulls, he is now back with the Rays.
To make room on the roster, relief pitcher Hunter Strickland has been traded to the Angels for either cash or a player to be named later. Strickland came to the Rays as a non-roster invitee, making the team out of Spring Training.
He has been effective for the Rays, working in low to medium leverage situations. He has appeared in 13 games, with an impressive 1.69 ERA and a very respectable 3.04 FIP.
His trade no doubt came about as the Rays juggle the “good” problem of too many decent relief arms, with Oliver Drake and Chaz Roe expected back from the IL in the foreseeable future.
