Baseball Prospectus has released their Top 101 prospects for the upcoming season and four Rays have made the cut.
3. Junior Caminero, 3B
18. Carson Williams, SS
42. Curtis Mead, 3B/2B
60. Xavier Isaac, 1B
Junior Caminero continues to receive high praise from prospect pundits as he ranks as the third best prospect in all of baseball according to Baseball Prospectus, which aligns with most other prospect publications. Fresh off a breakout season in which he obliterated opposing pitchers and soared from High-A all the way to the big league level to finish out the season playing in the postseason with the Rays.
Meanwhile, BP seems to be the highest on Carson Williams, understandably so as Williams has quite the lofty ceiling profiling as an exceptional defender at shortstop with the power to put up tremendous homerun numbers; the main detriment to his game has been his tendency to strikeout.
Curtis Mead is ready for the big leagues, but he is currently without a spot on the big league roster. Defensively, his arm makes him liability, but the offensive potential gained from having him in the lineup could be worth it. It’s a testament to how strong of an offensive profile Mead has that he is rated so highly as a prospect, despite his defensive shortcomings.
There were many who were perplexed when the Rays drafted Xavier Isaac, a gargantuan high school graduate who only played first base and weighed around 240 pounds. However, the Rays clearly saw something in Isaac and he rewarded them by putting in a tremendous amount of work to turn into an athletic beast and offensive monster.

Since being drafted, Isaac has shown remarkable plate discipline, incredible power, and stellar agility to make himself among the premier first base prospects in all of baseball. In a year’s time, he may be one of the best overall prospects in the game.
