Rays Your Voice: Rays sign Uwasawa, trade Raley and Kittredge

Are there more moves to come?

MLB: Tampa Bay Rays at Baltimore Orioles Mitch Stringer-USA TODAY Sports

We’re back for our first episode of the new year, and Erik Neander and Co. have provided us with plenty of news to talk about.

We start the show by providing an update on the Wander Franco situation after his arrest in the Dominican Republic. Then, we take a look at the two notable trades: Luke Raley to Seattle in exchange for MIF Jose Caballero, and Andrew Kittredge to St. Louis for OF Richie Palacios.

Another surprising move was made a few days later when the Rays signed Naoyuki Uwasawa to a minor league deal with an invite to Spring Training. Uwasawa is an 11-year pro from Japan, having pitched for the Nippon Ham Fighters for his entire career. Uwasawa has been a reliable NPB starter, but his role on the Rays pitching staff isn’t clear yet. He reportedly turned down major league offers from multiple other clubs, choosing to sign with the Rays who are known for their development of pitchers.

Will Uwasawa break camp with the team and if so, will he be in the starting rotation?
